Jan's farmhouse kitchen story

Thanks to Sigma 3 Kitchens in Swansea, Jan and Peter achieved the farmhouse kitchen they'd been dreaming of.

Neath based couple Jan and Peter have lived in their beautiful cottage home for over 40 years. Back in 2020, they contemplated relocating. After much deliberation, the couple decided they would spend the rest of their lives in their beautiful cottage home and renovate instead.

Once most of the cottage was completed, it was time to take on the kitchen. Jan envisaged a farmhouse kitchen with lots of quirks and design features that reflected the personality of their household.

After visiting numerous kitchen showrooms, Jan felt disheartened. None of the kitchen designers she'd met with was able to create the farmhouse kitchen she'd imagined.

Enter Sigma 3 Kitchens. The couple met with Swansea kitchen designer Ryan Thomas who understood their vision for their farmhouse kitchen.

What was the brief?

The home's surroundings inspired the farmhouse kitchen; the cottage backed onto green fields, and the family had stables. The other rooms of the cottage were designed with the surroundings in mind, so the new kitchen needed to match the country-style décor.

The design process

Luckily, we have a large selection of shaker kitchens suitable for a farmhouse kitchen look. Once Ryan had talked through all their options, the couple decided that our painted solid ash range Sherborne was the perfect fit.

Our nature-inspired Hunter Green finish was the perfect option to pay homage to the home's rural surroundings. A classic mantle was then added above the hob to further enhance the traditional farmhouse look, along with glass cabinetry and cup handles.

Jan explained she'd always wanted a kitchen island. So, Ryan incorporated an island with seating into the design. The island not only provides additional storage and a spot for casual dining, but it also helps zone the kitchen from the open-plan living area.

The outcome

When asked about her new farmhouse kitchen, Jan explained;

"It just makes life so much easier. When friends see the island, they go WOW. This was the kitchen of my dreams".
