Cottage renovation in beautiful South Wales
Published on 09 Sep 2020
When Samantha Jones visited our Abergavenny kitchen showroom, she brought with her a natural flair for interior design and a specific set of requirements for her cottage renovation.
What was brief?
Samantha is proud of her 18th century mill worker's cottage, so it was important to her that the design of the kitchen was sympathetic to the property. Samantha created a mood board to take with her to the showroom that consisted of magazine cuttings of things she thought would look great with the rest of the cottage, such as brass handles.
A space for Samantha's German Shorthaired Pointer was also imperative, and overall, Samantha's U-shaped kitchen needed to work better for her from a usability perspective.
The design process
Our Kitchen designer in Abergavenny, Emma Randall took on board all of Samantha's ideas and requirements - they both decided that our beautifully traditional Hardwick range would look impeccable within the open plan cottage space.
To accommodate for Samantha's beloved pooch, Emma designed a cosy gap secured within the Hardwick doors where she could sleep at night. The dog bed also encompasses brass bars that match the brass handles of the kitchen.
When it came to space and functionality, Emma explained that it would be best to remove Samantha's old wall units and replace them with cabinets with wide drawers where she could keep her cutlery and crockery, saving lots of space.
The outcome
Samantha's new kitchen truly is the perfect fit for her charming cottage, and her styling of the space is next to none. Since the installation of her new shaker kitchen, Samantha has spent much more time in her kitchen cooking from scratch, making the most of all her new prep space and AGA cooker.
